New Transmission Proposed for Southern California

Imperial Irrigation District, one of the five balancing authorities in
California, has recently announced addition of 230 KV and 500 KV
transmission lines in Southern California(1).
One of the reasons for this new transmission addition is to promote
harvesting renewable electricity from dense renewable resources in
Southern California particularly the Imperial Irrigation District service
territories.
In addition to facilitating the renewable energy developments in California,
the new transmission lines will provide additional bandwidth to export
renewable generation to the CAISO energy market and to the load centers
served by Arizona Public Service.
